Q: How do I apply for admission to Astor’s Residential Treatment Program?

A: Families can not refer their children directly for residential services. Referrals are approved and submitted through local departments of Social Services, Committees on Special Education and the NYS Office of Mental Health. Families should talk with their school districts, DSS workers or any mental health professionals for help in the referral process. Education and health-care professionals with questions may contact our Director of Admissions.

Q: What does Astor Residential Treatment cost?

A: Most commonly, the costs are funded by your local school district, department of social services or the Office of Mental Health. Personnel from the child’s school district, DSS or OMH can help explain and secure the funding needed to receive residential services at Astor.

Q: My child lives in [NYC, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Westchester, Dutchess Co., etc]; are they eligible for admission to Astor’s Residential Treatment programs?

A: Astor accepts children from throughout New York State. Some of our children come from as far as Albany, Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk Co.), and many other areas of NY.

Q: My child has [depression, anxiety, sexualized behaviors, etc]; are they eligible for admission to Astor’s Residential Treatment programs?

A: At Astor Services’ Residential Treatment programs, we treat children with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, fire setting behaviors, problematic sexual behaviors, and many more behavioral and mental health issues. Families should talk to their school counselor, social worker or principal, DSS Social Worker, or therapist about Astor. Education and health-care professionals with questions may contact our Director of Admissions.

Q: My child is [x] years old. Are they eligible to apply to Astor’s Residential Treatment programs?

A: Children who are age 5 years to age 13 years old at time of admission, who meet other eligibility requirements, are eligible to apply to Astor Services’ Residential Programs.
