In recognition of May’s Mental Health Awareness Month, Astor Services is partnering with Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue in Dover Plains, NY, to offer a Youth Equine Assisted Program for Astor clients ages 5–17. From July 8 through August 5, children and teens will participate in eight therapeutic, ground‑based sessions that harness the calming presence of rescued horses to help youth regulate emotions, build self‑confidence, strengthen communication, and develop lasting resilience. For young people coping with trauma, anxiety, and instability, these sessions offer a rare opportunity to feel safe, seen, and capable—without riding and guided by trained professionals.
Horses provide calm, honest, and nonjudgmental feedback, creating a uniquely safe space for children to practice emotional regulation, communication, and trust. Guided by certified equine‑assisted learning professionals, participants will engage in grooming, leading, barn chores, observing herd behavior, and guided reflection that links each experience to real‑life skills.
This program helps youth:
- Build self‑confidence and healthy communication
- Learn emotional regulation and resilience
- Practice leadership, teamwork, and responsibility
- Foster empathy toward animals and others
- Connect in a screen‑free, nature‑based setting
We are grateful to have you as part of the Astor community. With your support toward our $5,000 goal, you help open the door to healing, growth, and brighter futures for the children who need it most.
