Adopt-A-Family Program Seeks Donors

Donations Brighten the Holidays for Astor’s Deserving Children in the Hudson Valley and the Bronx

Astor Services for Children & Families is helping to brighten the holidays for children and their parents through its annual Adopt-A-Family program. The program, which runs until December 9th, matches families in-need with new gifts bought by volunteer donors. Together, Astor and community members gave away gifts to more than 1,400 children in the organization’s programs and their families during the 2017 holiday season.

“Gifts donated by community members do so much to bring holiday cheer to low-income families whose children are served by Astor,” said Sonia Barnes-Moorhead, executive vice president of the Children’s Foundation of Astor.

Astor will continue to partner with the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck for the Adopt-A-Family. The Fairgrounds will provide its new barn entrance to receive, sort and arrange the delivery of all the gifts for this program.

Adopt-A-Family registrants will receive a list of the people they’ve ‘adopted’ for the holiday season, including suggested gifts, per the individual(s)’ needs and wishes. Wrapped gifts can be delivered to a location in Rhinebeck or the Bronx in early December, with those details coordinated with the donor’s location.

“Part of the joy of the holiday season is making wishes come true,” said Barnes-Moorhead. “We are enormously grateful to our community members who give the gift of seasonal magic to our neediest kids and their families.”
